★ This NOS kit contains the original components for the reinforced late-type differential with 4 spider pinions, as applied in the later production years for improved strength and reliability.
Application
Specifically for Dodge WC-series vehicles with the late 9-5/8" differential, as applied in late 3/4 ton 4x4 models (1944-1945), WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 (1943-1945), as well as post-war M37/M43 variants and civilian Power Wagons. Please note: does NOT fit early-type 8-3/4" differentials with 2-pinion configuration.
Installation notes
Check before installation that your vehicle has the 9-5/8" differential (4" pinion seal diameter) and not the early-type 8-3/4" (3-1/2" pinion seal). The 4-pinion configuration is recognisable by four smaller spider pinions instead of two larger ones. Use new thrust washers and adjust backlash correctly according to TM specifications.
Compatibility
Compatible with: late WC 3/4 ton (1944-1945), WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6, M37/M43-series, civilian Power Wagons (1946-1968). NOT compatible with: early WC 3/4 ton with 8-3/4" differential (1942-early 1944), or WC 1/2 ton models. The difference between early and late lies in the ring gear diameter: 8-3/4" vs 9-5/8".
Historical context
Dodge introduced the reinforced 9-5/8" differential with 4 spider pinions in late war production to ensure better durability under heavy combat conditions. This configuration remained standard on all post-war M37 military lorries and civilian Power Wagon variants until the late 1960s.
