Application
This kit fits late production vehicles (1944-1945) with the larger 9-5/8" differential with 4-pinion configuration. The 4-pinion configuration is stronger than the earlier 2-pinion version and was applied as standard in late war production. Also suitable for post-war civilian vehicles with the same differential specification.
Installation notes
Note: this kit is exclusively suitable for the 9-5/8" differential with 4-pinion configuration. When fitted to a 2-pinion differential, parts will remain unused. The differential must be completely disassembled for replacement of the spider gears. Correct adjustment of gear backlash and bearing preload is critical after fitting.
Compatibility
NOT compatible with the early 8-3/4" differential (1941-1943) or with 2-pinion configurations. Early production used smaller differentials (CC996420 for 8-3/4" 2-pinion). This kit is exclusively for the late 9-5/8" 4-pinion differential applied from 1944 onwards.
Historical context
From 1944, Dodge switched to the larger and stronger 9-5/8" differential with 4-pinion spider gears for improved durability under heavy military conditions. This reinforced configuration remained in production well after the war.
