Application
This oil pressure gauge fits the complete Dodge WC-series: WC-51 through WC-63 variants, both 3/4-ton 4x4 models (such as WC-51, WC-52, WC-56, WC-57) and 1½-ton 6x6 models (WC-62, WC-63). The gauge was used on all body configurations: Weapon Carrier, Command Car, Carryall and ambulance variants. Produced from 1942 to 1945.
Installation notes
The gauge is connected mechanically via an oil pressure line (typically copper or flexible line) to the take-off point on the engine block. Normal operating pressure is 60 PSI with cold engine, 20-40 PSI at operating temperature and lower revs. Pressure below 10 PSI at idle (warm) indicates problems. Always verify with a calibrated gauge before replacing a faulty gauge.
Compatibility
PLEASE NOTE: this gauge is specific to Dodge WC-series vehicles with the 0-80 PSI scale. Willys MB/GPW jeeps use a different gauge. Dashboard connection differs between early and late production WCs — verify the original mounting arrangement. Some Command Car variants (WC-56/WC-57) had 12V electrical systems instead of 6V, but this is a mechanical gauge.
Historical context
The Dodge WC-series was built from 1941-1945 with approximately 255,000 units produced, and provided the Allied armies with reliable transport capacity. The oil pressure gauge was an essential monitoring instrument for the Dodge T-214 and T-215 engines (230 ci flathead-six) that powered these vehicles.
