Application
This wiring harness is applicable to Dodge WC 4x4 lorries in various configurations. Suitable for both open cab (weapons carriers, command cars) and closed cab versions (weapons carriers, pickups, ambulances). Due to the 6/12 volt design, usable in conversion projects where the original 6V system (standard on most WC models) is converted to 12V (as used on radio command cars WC-58 and some late WC-51/WC-52).
Installation notes
Note: 6V systems are positive-earth, 12V systems negative-earth. During conversion, dynamo/generator, voltage regulator, lamps and battery must also be adapted to the chosen voltage. The junction block on the firewall serves as central distribution point. Check all connections with a multimeter before connecting the battery.
Compatibility
Not suitable for: WC-53 Carryall and WC-54 Ambulance – these have different wiring. Not compatible with 1/2 ton WC-series (T207/T211/T215) which had a different wiring layout. Early war and late war WC lorries differ in switch configuration (pull-switch vs rotary headlight switch); check which type you have.
Historical context
Dodge produced over 250,000 WC lorries during WWII, predominantly with 6V electrical systems. Some radio command cars (WC-58) and late production WC-51/WC-52 received 12V from the factory for radio equipment. Post-war, many 6V lorries were converted to 12V by various armies to enable standardisation with post-war equipment.
