Application

This camshaft is suitable for Dodge WC 1/2-ton 4x4 vehicles with T215 engine code, production years 1941-1942. This concerns models WC-21 through WC-27 (open cab weapons carriers, command cars, ambulances, carryalls) and WC-40 through WC-43 (closed cab variants). The engine serial number begins with T215 and is stamped on the left side of the engine block, just below the head.

Installation notes

The T215 engine is mechanically identical to the T214 engine in terms of long block construction. Check before fitting that all camshaft bearings are in good condition. The engine uses chain drive for the camshaft. When overhauling the engine, the camshaft bearings (set of 3) should also be checked for wear.

Compatibility

Please note: whilst the T214 and T215 engines are mechanically identical in terms of long block (part number 870228), they differ in accessories and adjustment. The T215 was specifically used in 1/2-ton vehicles (1941-1942), whilst the T214 was fitted in 3/4-ton vehicles (1942-1945). According to parts books, the camshaft is interchangeable between both engine types. Not suitable for earlier T207 or T211 engines which had smaller displacement.

Historical context

The Dodge T215 engine was the third and final generation of the 1/2-ton WC series, built from 1941 to mid-1942. 28,537 vehicles of this series were produced before production switched to the improved 3/4-ton WC series with T214 engine.
