★ Replacement part for the standard Military Junior oil filter assembly fitted to thousands of WWII Dodge lorries. The filter element (cartridge) is supplied separately.
Application
Dodge WC 3/4 ton 4x4 (1942-1945), Dodge WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 (1943-1945), late production Dodge WC 1/2 ton (1942), and post-war Dodge M37/M43 variants (1951-1968). Also fitted to late Willys MB/Ford GPW and M38/M38A1.
Installation notes
Fit the filter housing to the engine block using the correct mounting bracket. Connect oil line to the side inlet (top of housing). Oil flows from outside to inside through the element, is filtered, and exits the housing via the central standpipe at the bottom. Check sealing of top and bottom gaskets. Filter element (921178) is fitted separately with spring washer underneath.
Compatibility
NOTE: Two different oil filter types were used on early Dodge WC vehicles. Early 1941-1942 WC 1/2 ton used a different system (677536). From late 1942, the Military Junior (920258) became standard on all 3/4 ton and 1-1/2 ton models. Check which type was originally fitted to your vehicle. This filter housing is NOT compatible with full-flow spin-on filters from later civilian lorries.
Historical context
The Military Junior oil filter became standard on Dodge WC 3/4 ton and heavier models from 1942 and remained in production into the 1950s for the M37 series. The bypass system filtered a portion of the oil with each cycle, allowing finer filtration than later full-flow systems.
