Function:
Double-acting hydraulic telescopic shock absorber that dampens axle and wheel movement for improved handling and ride comfort.
Ball stud mounting allows angular movement to suit suspension geometry.

Installation sequence (TM 9-1808A):

Raise vehicle to relieve axle load.

Remove cotter pin and nut from upper ball stud.

Detach lower mounting bolt.
-
Install new shock absorber, lower end first.

Mount to upper ball stud, tighten nut, insert cotter pin.

Check free suspension travel.
Maintenance:

Inspect for leaks, loose mounts, worn bushings.

Check action: smooth stroke without hesitation.

Always replace in axle pairs.
