Application
Suitable for Dodge WC 3/4 ton 4×4 (1942-1945), Dodge/Fargo/De Soto Flat Fender Civilian Power Wagon (1946-1968) and Military Export Power Wagon (1957-1978). Mounts on the steering box end of the drag link (steering rod). Not suitable for 1/2 ton WC models — these use a different type of steering rod seal.
Installation notes
Mount the metal dust cover over the ball joint with the felt seal between cover and steering arm housing. Fill the joint with grease via the grease nipple before fitting the dust cover. Check during assembly that the felt ring seals correctly around the steering rod shaft. When replacing, always inspect both ends (steering box side and axle end side) for wear.
Compatibility
NOTE: this is the kit for the steering box end (steering end, small model). For the axle ends (axle end) a different type of kit is required. WC 6×6 models require 1 steering end kit, M37 series requires 3 kits. Not suitable for 1/2 ton or light WC models.
Historical context
These dust covers were standard equipment on all Dodge military 3/4 ton 4×4 vehicles during WWII and were further developed for the post-war Power Wagon series until the late 1960s. Protecting the drag link joints was crucial in the extreme conditions in which these vehicles operated.
