Inner Tube Flap 900-16

For split-ring rims

Rubber inner tube flap (rim flap) in size 900-16, specially designed for military vehicles with split-ring or lock-ring rims. This flap is placed between the inner tube and rim to protect the inner tube from damage caused by the sharp edges of the rim construction.

Material

Rubber

Tyre size

900-16 / 9.00-16

Rim type

Split-ring / Lock-ring / Combat rim

Application

Military vehicles with 16" rims

Features

  • Protects inner tube against rim damage
  • Prevents wear from friction with lock-ring
  • Essential component during tyre changes
  • Specific for 6.5" x 16" rim width
  • Compatible with both NDT and modern tyres

★ Indispensable component for safe mounting of tyres on split-ring rims. Always use a new flap when fitting new inner tubes.

Application

Used on military vehicles equipped with 900-16 tyres on 16-inch split-ring rims (combat rims). The 900-16 tyre size was standard on Dodge WC ¾-ton 4×4 (1942-1945), Dodge WC 1½-ton 6×6 (1943-1945) and M37-series vehicles (1951-1968).

Installation notes

Before fitting, always check the condition of rim and lock-ring for corrosion and damage, especially in the lock-ring groove. The flap may adhere to the rim over time — use a tyre lever to carefully prise it loose. Have the fitting carried out by an experienced mechanic in a safety cage due to the danger of split-ring rims under pressure.

Compatibility

This flap fits 6.5" x 16" rims with 900-16 tyres. Important: NEVER use 900-16 tyres on narrower 5.5" x 16" rims (intended for 750-16) — this creates a dangerous situation where the lock-ring does not seat correctly. Always check rim width before fitting.

Historical context

The 900-16 tyre size was a significant improvement over the earlier 750-16 size and became standard on the heavier Dodge WC ¾-ton vehicles from the early 1940s. Split-ring rims (also known as combat rims) were the standard rim type for WWII military vehicles and always require a flap to protect the inner tube.
