★ Robust universal joint to original Detroit 5380 specification for late Dodge WC-series vehicles.
Application
This universal joint is used on the intermediate shaft of late Dodge WC 3/4 ton 4x4 vehicles (1942-1945) and Dodge WC 1-1/2 ton 6x6 (1943-1945). Also applicable to later Dodge M37, M43 and variants (1951-1968) and civilian Dodge/Fargo/DeSoto Power Wagon models (1946-1968). The universal joint is located between the transmission and the transfer case.
Installation notes
Please note: this is the late version. Early WC vehicles (up to serial number 88759859) used a different type with smaller dimensions (Rockwell #1FR / Spicer #5-264X). Check your vehicle's serial number and the dimensions of the existing joint before ordering.
Compatibility
NOT compatible with early Dodge WC 1/2 ton and early WC 3/4 ton (up to serial number 88759859) — these use a smaller joint. For late WC 3/4 ton and all WC 6x6 models this is the correct joint. Also suitable for M37/M43 military variants and civilian Power Wagon (1946-1971 with 3500 lb front axle).
Historical context
The changeover from the early to the late type universal joint occurred during WWII production at serial number 88759859, when Dodge switched to the more robust Detroit 5380 system with inside C-clip retainers for improved durability under severe military conditions.
