Radiator grille pressed steel type

9-slat pressed steel, standard production from June 1942

Pressed steel radiator grille with the characteristic 9 vertical slats as originally fitted from June 1942. This grille protects the radiator against debris, stones and branches during off-road use and gives the vehicle its iconic appearance.

Material

Pressed steel

Version

9-slat standard type

Vehicle

Willys MB, Ford GPW, Hotchkiss M201

Part number

WOA3615 (original WO-A3615)

Features

  • Pressed steel with 9 vertical slats
  • Pre-drilled mounting points for fitting
  • Protects radiator against debris and impact
  • Original design as applied from June 1942
  • Replaceable without modifications

★ Correct reproduction of the standard radiator grille as fitted to WWII production jeeps from mid-1942.

Application

Fits Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps produced from 12 June 1942 (standard pressed type, not slat-grille). Also suitable for Hotchkiss M201. This is the later production type with pressed vertical slats, which replaced the earlier welded slat-grille design.

Installation notes

Attachment with rivets or bolts to the front of the chassis, directly in front of the radiator. The grille has pre-drilled holes that align with the original mounting points. Fit with headlight buckets and arms on either side.

Compatibility

Not suitable for early slat-grille jeeps (production before June 1942). The pressed type replaced the welded slat-grille design and became standard on all subsequent MB/GPW production. Ford GPW grilles sometimes had a stamped 'F' on the radiator deflector on the inside, but grilles are interchangeable between Willys and Ford.

Historical context

From 12 June 1942, Willys and Ford replaced the welded slat-grille design with this pressed steel grille with 9 slats — lighter, cheaper to produce and stronger. This iconic design became the standard for all subsequent WWII jeep production and is the most recognisable feature of the military jeep.
